Today Is A Day

Thu Jun 11 11:18:25 AM MDT 2026 Let’s talk about what today is. Today is a rather ungrateful day. It’s a Thursday, so that’s got to mean something. Of course I thought yesterday was Thursday. Such a bummer. I’m freezing today. I don’t know how hot it’s supposed to get outside? But I feel cold. I don’t usually feel cold in the summertime. I hope I’m not getting sick or coming down with something. I’m sitting in my office and I have my minky on my lap because I’m freezing! Sami’s friend dropped off some chairs so we have a place to sit now. They’re nice oversized comfy chairs too! Only cost her eight dollars, so that’s what we paid for them. It feels good to have a place to sit in while writing or watching TV again. Talk about a good thing to have around. Last night, I had some crazy thoughts. Happy New Year!

Ah the new year is around the corner... some are already there, others are waiting for midnight to appear. Lots of fun to be had on New Years. Getting together with family and friends. Celebrating another year to come. It's a yearly ritual that happens. The ball drops in New York City, as 2010 will come in with a bang. Did 2009 go out in a bang for you? Was it a good year? If you could change a thing about 2009, would you? For me, I'm excited for 2010 to roll in. Should prove to be fun and exciting. :-)

Chrome OS

Can't wait for Chrome OS to come out next year... dang. Watched a video on YouTube today. It was a demo... the machine booted in 7 seconds, and they say that they're working on decreasing it even further?! WOOT! That's what I'm talkin' about. Well we have to wait till the end of next year for it to come out. It will be worth it for sure. Methinks I will wait on getting a netbook until Chrome OS comes out. It is going to rock for sure. One interesting thing about it... is it's taking the whole "Cloud" computing at heart. From the demo, it looks like Chrome OS will take advantage of the internet 100% for everything. You want to write a document, bam you get logged into Google Docs... etc. Very nice indeed.

Future Never Looked So Bad

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how terrible the future looks in science fiction shows. Not all sci-fi shows mind you... but it is a popular reoccurring theme. I wonder why they do that... why can't someone display the future as a nice place to be? They don't do that... they prefer to have you believe that everything goes crazy haywire in the future and it's all messed up. Before long, you have evil cyborgs going nuts killing people and other things. You would hopefully prefer that the future isn't too bad, that it's somewhat a nice place to live and or be. Of course the movies have a reason for showing how terrible life is... so the main character can go back in time and fix it. But how boring is that? It's been done... and it will continue to be done... and over done. That is their way of doing things.

Random Movies on iTunes

So, I've been in the habit of purchasing random movies from iTunes... having never heard of or watched them before, it's my first time viewing them. Some may consider this is a waste of money, but that's not the point. If you want to get into the grit of it, it's my money to waste. Anyways... I've bought a handful of movies, some of them are great, others not so much. I prefer to consider it an experiment to see how different authors write, and how the different genera all work out. It's enjoyable it really is. Try it sometime, you may or may not regret what you decide. One thing to note, read the reviews... that will at least steer you in one direction or the other.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Soul Key

Stayed up till 4 am this morning finishing the book "The Soul Key". Talk about wow! I enjoyed Fearful Symmetry so much, that I had to get the book that finished it. I don't believe I got bored with this book at all... it was just so... wow! I won't say anything about the plot or anything, just get the two books... read them, and have fun. That's really all there is to it. Enjoyed it a lot, would highly recommend it to fans of Deep Space Nine!

Stargate SG-1 Children of the Gods - Movie

[caption id="attachment_523" align="alignleft" width="220" caption="DVD Box"] [/caption] Downloaded Children of the Gods Final Cut from iTunes the other night. This is an updated version of the pilot episode... they took out some things, moved parts around... and updated the special effects. Sounds simple enough. Not sure which version I prefer... the original or the revised one. I suppose in the end it doesn't matter... it's all good and fun. Kind of interesting... after watching this. It makes me want to watch the entire SG-1 series all over again. Perhaps write a short review or a few thoughts on the episodes like I'm doing on SG:U. Of course then I'll have to get Stargate Atlantis as well. Hmmm... couldn't hurt I suppose. It's an awesome show... yes, I believe that's what I will do. Oh shoot, I need to get the original movie as well. Shoot, this will be one heck of a project. I do believe I will enjoy it. Anywhoo, ...

SG:U - Justice

Watched the latest episode of Stargate Universe last night, titled Justice. Um... okay... so it's getting better than it was last week. At least that's what I'm thinking about it. Interesting how the main guy in charge just left Rush on that planet after kicking his ass to the ground. He'll reappear I'm sure... just a question of when. And what was up with the chair drilling into the dude's head? Now THAT was interesting... I suppose version 1.0 Alpha of anything have some... erm... bugs to work out? If causing damage to a person's head is considered a bug? Yeah... should be interesting to see what they do with that one.

iTunes - Star Trek: DS9 Season 2

I noticed this evening that iTunes has the second season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. If I remember correctly, it only costs like $13.99 or something crazy low like that... while the first season still costs around $40. Rather interesting if you ask me. I am puzzled by the fact that a) it's that low, and b) why hasn't iTunes put the other series second seasons on there yet. They don't even have TNG on there yet. Crazy I tell ya... just crazy. You would think they would have put TNG on there right away... I suppose I'll still sit here waiting for more seasons of Enterprise. In the end I'll probably just buy them all on DVD.

Star Trek

So I bought Star Trek from Wal-Mart the other day. Downloaded the video thru iTunes from the second dvd. Makes it easier to watch on my computer... don't have to take the dvd with me anytime I want to watch a the movie when I'm out and about.. well with my laptop. heh I think I'll load it on my iPod as well. Anywho, I've watched it twice now since grabbing it off the shelf. Such a freakin' good movie! I LOVE it! Before this movie came to theaters, I made sure not to read anything regarding it online. I'm usually eager to read about a new movie coming out etc. Not on this one, I didn't want to endanger anything by learning stuff before watching it for the first time. Didn't want to have ideas about the movie before going into it. I was wise in doing so. By watching it fresh, I was able to just sit back and enjoy it. Such a good freakin' movie. Chris Pine does a wonderful job as Kirk... hell they all do great jobs at becoming the characters that we kn...

SG:U - Life

Watched the episode "Life" last night on SG:U... um yeah. Sounds like the drama is going to kick in... soap opera Stargate is what they should have called it. So, one of the gals is a lesbian... wtf is that all about? Nice to see the rest of the crew having sex with each other and all of that. Sheesh. Not sure I'm liking this series... much at all now. When are they going to run into some actual aliens... and get down to some serious stuff? Sure they found a chair room and all of that... um, who cares?

Last episode of SG:U was a typical timetravel episode... we've seen this before, nothing new. Hit a planet, find a device that has important data to your survival... and it keeps looping until the timeline's corrected. Yup, seen it... been there... bought the tee-shirt. Talk about yawn. Next!

SG:U - Earth

Watched the latest episode of Stargate Universe last night titled "Earth". Jist was the govt took control of the ship via the stones in order to get them back home. The kid, as I call him, was pretty tolerable in this episode. His new assignment is to watch Dr. Rush, find out if he's hiding something. The future of the series should be interesting to say the least. Loved the episode, just loved the tension between the characters and the grrr people that popped in to take over. Classic episode, just classic. Interesting how the first thing they did was haul that one guy off to a cell, the bastards. But whatever, it's all good in the end. They got the ship back and from the looks of things... they might be able to attempt the whole flying into the sun thing again to get home? Interesting thought... interesting thought indeed. As usual, I don't give episodes ratings... that's up for you to decide. I just have my opinions. Can't wait till next week.

SyFy - BSG: The Plan & Caprica

I recently bought "Caprica" and "The Plan". What I saw was rather upsetting. In both direct to dvd "movies", they had nudity. I don't understand why they did this... it did nothing to the story line in either video. Shame SyFy, same on you for doing this. Personally I should have either read up on them more and/or waited for the televised version to come out next year.

SG:U - Light

Catching up on SG:U. Watching the episode titled "Light". So the just is, the Destiny is heading towards a star... you know like a sun? Yeah that thing. They hold a loto to see who gets to go on the shuttle and who has to die. It was nice they got to see what Destiny looks like finally. We the viewer got to see it, but the characters haven't. So that was sweet. I'm rather enjoying Eli making a documentary on the whole thing, which turned into letters to home. Interesting how they took the spin on how people react when they know they're about to die. Very interesting indeed. So apparently Destiny had the power it needed. It flew into the star on purpose to regenerate itself. Such an interesting concept! Makes sense, I mean you have a ship that goes from system to system doing the gate thing... it has to have power right? Yes, very interesting indeed.

Happy Halloween

Well, today is that day where kids go out dressed as monsters, porn stars dress down (wait isn't that everyday?) and people wait at their door to hand out candy. Well unless they decide to go out to dinner and a movie instead. ;-) Ah yes, Halloween. Such a festive day... getting a sugar rush followed by a huge headache! Fun times, fun times indeed. Went to Wal-Mart today. Saw a bunch of people dressed up walking around there getting their last minute supplies for whatever activities they have going on today/tonight. Was fun to see the people that work there dressed up. Saw a vampire even, very good indeed. Have a fun, safe happy Halloween. Don't eat too much candy... and make sure you take some of the kids's candy 'cause they don't need all that sugar!

Hello World!

You know the age old tried and true method where you know you have a programming language installed correctly. The one where create a "Hello World" application? Yeah, that's the one. Kids start off with their first words being "Mama" or "Dada", a programmer's first words are "Hello World!". Side Note: Actually my first words were "Holy Sh** it worked!" But more on that another time. Ah yes, a tried and true method. I remember reading a book once, where instead of starting with the Hello World example, 'cause the author thought it was rather boring... he started off with a different example completely. I found this approach to be rather soothing. I was grateful that they had decided to go with a different approach. Needless to say it caught my attention. Side Note: Must not have caught my attention that great... 'cause I can't recall what it is at the moment... darn it! Oh well. So yes, next time you write a book or c...

How Ant Changed My Life

Let's talk about Ant for a moment and how it has basically changed my life. Talk about an awakening. Ant is basically a version of Make. I've never used Make, so I haven't a clue how that works... but I'm sure someone out there knows how Make does its thing. You see, Ant is awesome. It allows you to automate your builds. You can compile and run Java programs using Ant. You can create directories, zip up files, delete directories and lots of other things. Whenever I create a new Java project, I usually create an Ant build to go with it. Heck, I've even used Ant for web projects allowing me to push a website I'm testing into the localhost folder so I can view it with my web browser. I've even setup Ant to handle database creation, e-mailing updated files to my gmail account, and even ftping files to my live server. Talk about efficiency! Talk about making my life easier. Seriously, if you've not checked out Ant... you should. It's well worth it.

Bing, Twitter, and Google oh my

So, word on the net has it that you can now search Twitter tweets. How special is that. Moments after I found this out... I could swear that Google decided to do the same darn thing. While I'm not surprised by this action... I am amused that Google didn't announce that they had done it first. But leave it to Microsoft to try and wedge their feet into something where I don't believe they really belong. Personally I think that Microsoft should leave the whole search thing to Google, Yahoo etc. They should just focus on what they do best... taking money from people and selling a sub-standard Operating System. (Wow, I sure do sound biased against them now don't I? Nah, not me!) :o) I wonder if people will catch onto Bing ... Google has become a household name and has been since 1999 ish. I know when I go to Google something... I use well Google. Even if I search something via Yahoo, or Msn (not very often mind you), I still call it googling. Oh well, may the best *cough...

SG:U Episode 4 - Power Issues

I'm guessing this last episode is number 4... if you put the first episode as a two part thing. I believe it was called Air , and was a 3 part story arc? Not sure. According to Hulu , this episode is titled Darkness . Last episode of Stargate Universe dealt with power issues in more than one way. The first power issue is the ship is running out of juice. The other power issue is that people don't trust each other. Dr. Rush for example, he wants to be all high and mighty... wants to be in charge. etc. The interesting part of the episode was... no, not the part with the shower... lol No no, it was that you can tell groups of people don't trust other groups of people etc. The people back on earth seem to be trying ot tangle themselves in as well throug the communication stones. You would think that after so many years, the people on Earth would listen before making irational decisions. They aren't on the freakin' ship now are they? How do they know what's best for ...

SG:U Episode 2

Okay, so I'm watcing the second episode of Stargate Universe. Uh, Desert Planet. Right... So they have these stones which allows them to contact Earth at anytime. That's nice, they can keep in touch. How sweet. Okay, so they're on this desert planet so they can find a way to get their air thing working again in order to survive. What do they find on the plnet? Sand. Well and this thing that keeps buggin' them... and it looks like it likes water. Hmmm interesting, perhaps that's where all the water went to in the first place. And a face just appeared out of the sand. (Yes I'm watching it as I type) Typical how when you get too warm that you start seeing things. Oh yes, it always happens like that. The 'kid' is rather annoying... sure he wants to understand crap... but shoot, he's no scientist. Reminds me of an episode of Enterprise, where they were on a Desert Planet. Hmmm... probably not though. The ex con is fun. Seems like he likes to threaten peop...

Let's Talk NCIS

So, on the latest episode of NCIS, Ziva asks for her job back, Gibbs tells her that she can no longer be a Masad Officer. She tells Gibbs that she has already sent an e-mail to her father... (talk about a resignation letter eh?)... and she stands there waiting for Gibbs to sign the paper. From the previews next week, it doesn't look like he signs it now does it? Personally I think it's time they got rid of Ziva, time for a new character to fill the female shoes in the show. Too bad they got rid of the female director, she rocked. Oh well... I'm sure eventually I'll get used to her... of course she's been on the show how long? Yeah um... shoot.

Stargate Universe

Okay... so I watched Stargate Universe the other night. This was the premiere episode. I felt the episode jumped back and forth through time a little too much... I would have preferred it stayed where it was at the beginning with them being on the ship, instead of bam switching to a few days ago etc. We could have gotten the information from dialogue that the characters were saying etc. One thing that bugged me about the episode was the way they recruited the kid... I mean come on, putting a top secret code thing in a computer game, and just wait till a dude can crack it? Then when he doesn't believe them, they beam him up to the space ship. Yeah um... what in the hell was that all about? That really didn't go over well for me... oh well. The acting was a little rough, I'm sure it will get better. I enjoyed how the episode left off, making you thirst for more. Of course we have to wait a week and all of that... but hey, it's all good right? Right! All in all, I would sa...

Ah Twitter, yes you know the place. Where people talk about whatever is going on in their lives. It's a place for communication with other twits... no, wait... that's not the correct term um... other tweeters... no... what's the phrase I'm looking for? Oh yes, others that have been stung by the Tweeting Bird so to speak. Do birds sting? Well, if they don't this one sure does. It's become one of the largest fads since Myspace, Blogging, and Geocities... (remember them? oh yeah, they're soon to be gone, if not already gone). Twitter has become a household name. No one else has done microblogging quite like it. When it comes to ways to put your tweet out there, there are hundreds of applications to choose from. You can tweet from your phone, from your computer, from your mobile device (iphone, ipod touch, blackberry etc.) you can tweet just from about anywhere. Twitter doesn't sleep... you tweet it displays. You can even post links to your blog after they...

The Weekend

So, this weekend is almost here. Fun times are to be had for sure... well that is if you have money to go some place. It's an interesting thought, you want to go out and do something this weekend and all of that... but if you don't have any money to do anything... well you have a slight problem. So, what can you do... you stay home, and make the weekend your own. Just because you don't have money doesn't mean you can't do anything fun... do you have any games in your closet? Play those. Or you could just sleep in. Perhaps enjoy a relaxing walk or a drive around the block. Yeah the block... ah good times with that one. Take the dog for a walk, go visit neighbors... endless possibilities. Go read a book even. You remember what those are right? They have hard covers or soft covers... they have words in them? Yeah those things! Anywho... I might do all of the above this weekend. It will be nice to have a day off.
