Ubuntu 12.04

Came home and installed version 12.04 of Ubuntu. It went very quick. I rather enjoyed the process. Didn't have any issues with the wireless or anything else. So yes so far smooth sailing. So very happy this went quick and painless.

Wireless Networking Ubuntu 12.04

Yup, I upgraded to Ubuntu Unity 12.04. Wireless networking isn't working quite yet. Not sure what's going on. I followed the same steps I have had to with the machine in the past and still nothing. We'll see what happens. But for now, it appears that it just doesn't like me. I'll have to do some more searching in order to find the best answer to fix this problem. But for now, I'll have to keep it wired.

ColdFusion

So recently, I decided to include ColdFusion in my Linux setup. I was going to just run Tomcat and install CF that way, but well I decided against that route and installed ColdFusion 9 using the regular methods. It's been running quite smoothly if I do say so myself.

I of course don't have the installation instructions anymore. Oops. I suppose I could Google for them again and make a copy or something. But well if my server ever crashes and I have to start all over again, yeah I'll worry aobut it then. FOr now, not so much.

So here's my current setup:

  • MySQL
  • PHP
  • Perl
  • ColdFusion 9

Yeah something like that. Not too bad if I do say so myself. Of course what else would I say about it? You know I wouldn't ever say anything bad about my own server setup. Well unless I already have, if that's the case. Oops. Disregard that blog post.

So yep, I think I'll have some fun with all of that for sure.

More Linux

Been playing with the Terminal lately. I've been wondering why I just didn't go with a Terminal only install. Oh that's right, because I want to actually surf the web with all the images and stuff. I'm sure I could have found a way to do that. But yes, I'm still loving having Linux on my home computer. It's just wonderful to be able to pop open a Terminal and do things.

Ran across some YouTube videos lately that's teaching me more about bash scripting. I probably should pick up a book on it, that would be way cool.

One script came in very handy. It gives me the ability to record my screen. I figured it would be way difficult and time consuming. But nope, not with the script. I'll have to post a link to where I got it from later. It just rocks.

So yes, I'm giving Ubuntu Linux version 11.whatever a two thumbs up. I hear there's a version 12 out there in beta land. I've not upgraded yet, still waiting for the OS to tell me it's available and I'll let the sucker upgrade itself. So yep good times for sure.

Linux Life

Oh yes, I did it. I removed the Windows Vista OS from my laptop and installed Linux.

Now I am just happy with what I now have. Oh yes you wouldn't believe it! Free OS, Free software to use as I please. Yep it's the greatest thing to happen to my computer since I bought the sucker. It feels like my computer is running quite faster as well. So I'm happy.

The flavor I decided to go with was Ubuntu.

PS1

Oh the PS1 variable. Good times for customizing your Linux Prompt.

Been attempting to figure out a good Linux Prompt for my computer. Still looking into it... and still trying to figure out exactly what it is I want my prompt to display. If I don't figure that out... well what's the use of having a prompt at all. Yep all of that.

So we'll just have to wait and see what happens with all of that.

Good times head.

WWW Linux

Been working with my /var/www directory lately. Rather annoying how it wasn't working for me. Anytime I tried to upload a file it didn't want to do anything with it etc. Long story. So I ended up running the following commands:

$ mkdir ~/www
$ sudo mv /var/www /var/www-backup
$ sudo ln -s /home/user/www /var/www

Works like a charm!

Spent way too much time last night attempting to setup a Linux Server at home. After five hours, I finally figured it out. Woot!

Site Updated... Merged Two Sites Into One

Merged two websites into one tonight. Figured why log into two places when one will do.

So yep this is the new improved site. Hopefully all I'll be doing is adding to it from here on out. We'll have to see what happens.

Speaking of moving things around. Tonight I formatted an old computer I have, put Linux Mint on it and created my own home server. Not too bad if I do say so myself.

Can't recall all of the processor specs and all of that, but it has 2 gigs of ram and a 320 gig hard drive in it. So no I don't think I'll be running out of storage space anytime soon.

Kinda enjoy having my own server in the house. Good for projects or whatever else I need/want to put on it.

Not to mention it'll be nice to actually have something that's up 24/7 instead of only when the laptop is on.

Slump

 I feel like I'm in a slump. I can't even think of what to write about. The cursor just sits there. It's a staring match that wo...
