Wireless Networking Ubuntu 12.04

Yup, I upgraded to Ubuntu Unity 12.04. Wireless networking isn't working quite yet. Not sure what's going on. I followed the same steps I have had to with the machine in the past and still nothing. We'll see what happens. But for now, it appears that it just doesn't like me. I'll have to do some more searching in order to find the best answer to fix this problem. But for now, I'll have to keep it wired.

ColdFusion

So recently, I decided to include ColdFusion in my Linux setup. I was going to just run Tomcat and install CF that way, but well I decided against that route and installed ColdFusion 9 using the regular methods. It's been running quite smoothly if I do say so myself.

I of course don't have the installation instructions anymore. Oops. I suppose I could Google for them again and make a copy or something. But well if my server ever crashes and I have to start all over again, yeah I'll worry aobut it then. FOr now, not so much.

So here's my current setup:

  • MySQL
  • PHP
  • Perl
  • ColdFusion 9

Yeah something like that. Not too bad if I do say so myself. Of course what else would I say about it? You know I wouldn't ever say anything bad about my own server setup. Well unless I already have, if that's the case. Oops. Disregard that blog post.

So yep, I think I'll have some fun with all of that for sure.

Subversion Your What Now?

Been reading on people adding their home directories to Subversion.

I'm still scratching my head over this one. Currently I zip up the config files that I want to keep backed up and store them on my personal server. I don't quite get why someone would have the need to subversion their home directory for config purposes. Well I take that back, I suppose if someone wanted to distribute their settings out to a ton of people yeah they could do that. For example a .bashrc file that you want all of your students in a class, or all of your coworkers to have the same functions etc. Yeah I could see where that could be useful. But for day to day things? I don't see a need for it.

Of course it could change someday, but for now. Nope.

Oh Weekend We Meet Again

Well the weekend decided to come again. Not sure how I feel about that, well except for the fact that I enjoy the weekends as much as I possibly can.

Dog woke up on his usual time, darn bloody early if you ask me. But he's a dog, he doesn't quite get that it's the weekend and that he's meant to sleep in. Yeah something like that.

The cats on the other hand know that sleeping is good for you. I mean think of how much they tend to sleep all the time? Yep all of that for sure.

So dear weekend, I feel like just hanging out with you and having some fun. Is that to much to ask? Nope didn't think so.

Oh Battlestar

So I decided I should actually watch the rest of Battlestar Galactica. I've seen the first three seasons. So why shouldn't I actually finish it up and watch the fourth season? Yep that's what I'm thinking.

So there's my thoughts on that. Of course I should just watch the series starting from the beginning all over again. Yeah, get recaught up on what the whole show was even about.

Now there's an idea.

Give me some time to save up to download the last season, then if I enjoy it that much I can go and buy the DVDs for the series. Yep all of that.

More Linux

Been playing with the Terminal lately. I've been wondering why I just didn't go with a Terminal only install. Oh that's right, because I want to actually surf the web with all the images and stuff. I'm sure I could have found a way to do that. But yes, I'm still loving having Linux on my home computer. It's just wonderful to be able to pop open a Terminal and do things.

Ran across some YouTube videos lately that's teaching me more about bash scripting. I probably should pick up a book on it, that would be way cool.

One script came in very handy. It gives me the ability to record my screen. I figured it would be way difficult and time consuming. But nope, not with the script. I'll have to post a link to where I got it from later. It just rocks.

So yes, I'm giving Ubuntu Linux version 11.whatever a two thumbs up. I hear there's a version 12 out there in beta land. I've not upgraded yet, still waiting for the OS to tell me it's available and I'll let the sucker upgrade itself. So yep good times for sure.

Linux Life

Oh yes, I did it. I removed the Windows Vista OS from my laptop and installed Linux.

Now I am just happy with what I now have. Oh yes you wouldn't believe it! Free OS, Free software to use as I please. Yep it's the greatest thing to happen to my computer since I bought the sucker. It feels like my computer is running quite faster as well. So I'm happy.

The flavor I decided to go with was Ubuntu.

Backing Up Files

As I was in the process of backing up files last night due to the fact that I was getting rid of Windows Vista (finally). I found out the following:

I managed to backup all of my videos and music just fine. I did not however backup some java projects that I was working on. Bad Kyle! Bad!

Oh well, I guess I'll have to code those over again. This time I'll be sure to check them into my local SVN repo.

Can't believe I didn't do that.

Oh well, once you learn you learn right? That's how it works yes?

Fan Made What Now?

Ran across a fan made Star Trek film today on YouTube.

Yeah I wasn't amused in the least. I don't get why people make such films. Doesn't make any sense at all. Oh well, they can do whatever it is they want. But to be honest, I think Star Trek has seen its days and should just be put to rest.

Yep you heard me, it needs to just go to sleep. Take what it has and run with that.

Time Travel

Ah the matter of Time Travel. It's happened before through various televisions shows and movies, books etc. The whole notion of "What If" I did this instead of that back in the day. By some miracle the character is given the opportunity to travel back in time and correct a mistake they think they can fix.

As most time travel stories go, the character finds out that no matter what they do to change the past they simply screw things up by doing so. They find it's better to have left the past as it is and they go about their way satisifed that they at least tried.

One would think if they had figured out that part to begin with, they would be happy. But no this is never the case.

What is it about the human race that makes us want to fix regrets from our past? Mistakes and whatever else happens in ones life make up who they are today.

If more people could realize that and understand that, would they still want to go back in time and change events? Interesting question. Since everyone is different and have unique experiences to themselves... it's dificult to even come at an answer to that question.

iPad and File Uploads

If you're attempting to upload a file using Safari... don't even try.

Apparently the iPad iPod Touch and iPhone's Safari browser's don't have access to the file system... so anytime you come across a webpage where you can upload a file, it won't let you.

There are "workarounds" which include jailbreaking your iWhateverDevice ... but honestly do people really want to do that to use your website?

Way to go Apple... way to go.

TinyTower Cheating???

Okay seriously?

I went and did a search for "cheating at TinyTower"... sure enough there are cheats for it. They all appear to do with date and time modifications.

My first question is... why? My second question is no really why?

Silly people, why on earth would you want to cheat at a free game? Or cheat at any game? People just don't have patience anymore.

Currently I'm waiting 13 hours for a floor to finish. Yep I'm waiting for it... gasp. Whoever thought of actually waiting for your game to do its thing? If I were to cheat it would take all of the fun out of it. So nope, not gonna cheat.

Happy Easter

Hello Easter Bunneh... you came last night. Woohoo! You um left your carrot behind though. I won't lie. It just kinda happened. Yep all of that.

Tiny Tower

So I started playing a game called Tiny Tower on my Android well and my iPod. It's quite addictive for unknown reasons.

The goal is to build as tall of a tower as you can.

You create different floors that are of different types, residential, food, service etc. and just keep building.

I tend to leave it alone for a few hours and pick it up, the game keeps playing by itself.

So yep, Tiny Tower give it a shot if you haven't yet.

Pepsi Next

So I tried Pepsi Next.

Not too bad if I do say so myself. Actually found the taste to be quite good.

I compared the Nutritional Information on the back of the bottles of Pepsi and Pepsi Next the other night. Pepsi Next did have less sugar in it... but if I'm not mistaken it had more sodium. I'll have to find the exact numbers and post them.

But as far as the taste goes? Very good in my opinion. Quite delicious actually. I'd pick that if they started serving it in fast food joints.

Tomorrow Is Another Day

So the weekend comes to an end. Good things were learned, hopefully remembered over the course of this weekend as General Conference came to a close.

I?m always excited for General Conference. It feels like it just goes too quickly some years. Before long it's over. Good learning experiences were had for sure. I?ll have to download the messages to read over to catch things that I may or may not have missed.

Star Wars :: Special Editions

Wow... can't believe people are all up in arms about this.

So, as we all know, George Lucas made "Special Editions" of the Star Wars movies. Fans of the movies got all upset because he changed things and enhanced the movies from their 1977 looks. They "demand" that he release the original untouched movies in a high def format.

Lucas refuses and tells them to "Grow Up."

Classic.

My question to all those happy Star Wars fans out there? Why don't you just watch your VHS copies that we know you have. Don't say you don't have the originals.... we know you do have access to said originals. Sure they're not in DVD format and stuff, but hey you have access to them.

It's his show. He can do whatever he wants to do with it.

Yep my 2 cents.

Ever feel like no one is listening?

Ever have that feeling that no one is listening to you? Yeah, that feeling. It can be a strong feeling to have, a hurtful feeling also. The...
