Wicked People Are All Around

Wherefore, as I said unto you, it must needs be expedient that Christ—for in the last night the angel spake unto me that this should be his name—should come among the Jews, among those who are the more wicked part of the world; and they shall crucify him—for thus it behooveth our God, and there is none other nation on earth that would crucify their God.1

And behold, that great city Jacobugath, which was inhabited by the people of king Jacob, have I caused to be burned with fire because of their sins and their wickedness, which was above all the wickedness of the whole earth, because of their secret murders and combinations; for it was they that did destroy the peace of my people and the government of the land; therefore I did cause them to be burned, to destroy them from before my face, that the blood of the prophets and the saints should not come up unto me any more against them.2

From these two scriptures...nearly 580ish years apart from each other, and we find two groups of people who are so wicked on all the earth. At first I thought the second scripture was in conflict with the first scripture. But now that I look at it, the first scripture talks about how the Jews were the only people on the earth who would crucify the Lord. They were evil for sure. While the second scripture talks about how this other group of people were also wicked above the rest of the world.

However, it does make me wonder. Did the people who lived in those cities...would they have crucified the Savior as well? It can be up for debate, as perhaps no one knows the answer. I believe the main point of it all is there are wicked people no matter where you go.

Don't expect to stay...

PUBLIC AFFAIRS: At what point does showing that love cross the line into inadvertently endorsing behavior? If the son says, ‘Well, if you love me, can I bring my partner to our home to visit? Can we come for holidays?’ How do you balance that against, for example, concern for other children in the home?’

ELDER OAKS: That’s a decision that needs to be made individually by the person responsible, calling upon the Lord for inspiration. I can imagine that in most circumstances the parents would say, ‘Please don’t do that. Don’t put us into that position.’ Surely if there are children in the home who would be influenced by this example, the answer would likely be that. There would also be other factors that would make that the likely answer.

I can also imagine some circumstances in which it might be possible to say, ‘Yes, come, but don’t expect to stay overnight. Don’t expect to be a lengthy house guest. Don’t expect us to take you out and introduce you to our friends, or to deal with you in a public situation that would imply our approval of your “partnership.”
Interview With Elder Dallin H. Oaks and Elder Lance B. Wickman: “Same-Gender Attraction”

There are so many different circumstances, it’s impossible to give one answer that fits all. It's always good to put things in full... to get a picture of the entire scope. Either way? It still speaks of shunning those you love. In the first paragraph it looks to the parents thinking about their own "position". While the second paragraph ... again speaks about how the parent's would look to their friends.

What Matters Most Is What's In Your Heart

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.1

The Lord truly looks upon the heart of man. Is not that which matters most through this time of life? Things come along our way and we go forth and do what is needed. The thoughts come and go this is true, not everything is set in stone. So when we do eventually come to that great and last day, where will we stand? God knows our heart, He knows the desires of our heart. Is this life but a stepping stone in which we are meant to be judged on our eternal progression?

We’re told that this life is a test. We live and when we die, we are judged based off of this life. Here’s the catch. Eternity is forever, it doesn’t begin and it doesn’t have an end. We are judged based off of perhaps eighty years or so, depending on how long someone lives, and our eternity is determined because of those years in a mortal existence.

We don’t have any knowledge of a pre earth life. We are in the dark with only good feelings to guide us. Well good and bad feelings, the Holy Ghost is meant to show us the way. Yet, how does the Holy Ghost know what’s good and what’s bad for us individually? He is a personage of spirit, as I understand it, the Holy Ghost hasn’t had the opportunity to have an earthly experience (yet), if that is true then how are we to fully know the promptings we receive are true.

When told to go off feelings and not facts, it becomes confusing. Testimony is based on good warm fuzzy feelings? Logic and facts don’t matter apparently. If logic doesn’t matter, and everything truly does go off of what’s in the heart and that’s what God looks into, we will be okay in the long run if everything is where it should be.

Where does any of this fit in regarding life? We live, we experience, and we die? Is that it? Personally I would like to have some answers to questions. Is that too much to ask? One would hope not.
